Do oyster plants prevent weeds?

I need to know because my Mom says they do prevent it, but she has this obsession with planting random plants, so I need to know so I can get her to rip them out. Thanks

Oyster plant is itself an invasive weed in North America and weeds do tend to prevent other weeds from growing.
Reply:Rhoeo spathacea (Oyster Plant) is actually an invasive plant itself (weed).
Reply:I don't know about that plant but certain plants inhibit each others growth. So it may be that oyster plant inhibits a common weed in her area. A good example is if you grow dill near carrots they will both be very stunted. This phenomenea is the basis for "companion planting". Some people use this in organics.
